tinker Jax
We aren't really talking about boys and toys, or a father Christmas type old man handing out presents, that is just analogy. These are Gods haggling here and Aleph bets using the names of all things that are his to command. His packs contain everything that he has ever named but the only name Jax wanted was Ludis, and her name wasn't Aleph's to give. That means he did not create her, and that she was there before he was. She is therefore likely to be a third Aleu to consider but that branch can wait until later.
When Jax beat the tinker he became the tinker. He actually won three things. Stick, Packs and Hat. These items enabled Jax to travel away from his old broken realm and explore the realms of Temerant. The original tinker would of course have had to remain in Jax' house in the broken realm for balance. The universe itself demands such balance there are rules to this game.
Examining Aleph's reactions reveals that he was Not inconvenienced at all by the losing of his stick. Sticks are now plentiful in the mael. The stick is a tree in the hand of a god.
The packs were the second trade, but Aleph lost the bet fair and square so whilst this trade was painful to him, but not critical to his own future happiness. He still knows all these names since they cannot be forgotten, but they only apply in their own realm. The loss of His Hat , however, seems to have been the trade which tipped the balance. The hat maketh the man and on the head of a god his hat might mean anything. I suggest the Hat represents the Name of god, the long Name of Aleph and without it this Aleu in question would be doomed to 'Fall nameless from the sky' so to speak. Jax needed a hat if he was going to survive as the new tinker of Temerant, with a new name of his own to wear. This is when the name Jax name officially gets translated into Iax. The halfway point in Hespes story.
light is Anathema to all creatures of shadow but The Name of Iax creates a pool of shade to shield and protect Jax from the harmful Strom light, perhaps the stick supports the hat like an umbrella.
A hood, as it were.
A hole in the light where the dark can get in.
The difference between dreams and nightmares.
Dark light
Before we go here you must remember that this is fantasy fiction FFS and my ramblings are just one version of how things might fit together. Or be dismantled of course, that is the other side of the coin.
Now light is strange stuff. And Aleph is a creature of light. The realm of Light makes up everything that you can see. The realm of Shadow is the opposite and is made up of everything that you cannot see. That doesn't mean it isn't there, it just means you, as a human, aren't receptive enough to recognise it for what it is.
If you dismantle light by using a white prism we can see it's component parts as 7 different colours. 7 layers of make up combine to make true white.
A black prism will create the same spectrum but with a negative effect that ends with true black.
In this work of fiction the theory is that there are hard edges to this spectrum.
The 7 together create the white 8th. So conversely taking them away will create the opposite colour of darkness. They both exist at the same time but you cannot see both together. Walking through a forest is different in light or dark but it's still the same forest. Only your perception of it has changed.
A light in the dark stands out like a sore thumb. a shadow in the light does the same.
If we were to build a physical model of a spectrum in Temerant on a grand enough scale to satisfy the board games of an Aleu. Each colour will have a physical aspect. We will need all seven different counters all lined up in a row with their total focus powering a special white counter. Notice how they are all in a row? A dead straight line crossing the board, We will call this point Myr Tariniel.
The one city is powered by the 7 cities or perhaps it powers them. Either way they work in concert and obey the rules. Roygbiv = white. Which makes up everything in the realm light. Then you have to add in Ultra Violet UV and you will get true white. That's the bit where gods reside and you as a human cannot see anymore than you can see a dream. But dreams still exist. UV is all that Dark light has to work with it is the break in the brohwn wheel. This is the realm where Jax broken house exists and the sky has no moon. We call it the Mael , you think of it as the Fae, but it's not. That came later. Octarine.
A colour that cats can see but we cannot. Faelight.
Iax Caught every colour he could see, but not his own UV that, light escaped.
Terran humans can see wavelengths as colours between 370 and 750. This is like being on Aleph's side of the board. What they cannot see are the wavelengths from zero to 370, which is about half this is Jax side of the board.
However, both of these boards cover the same map. Reversible chequers, order among chaos.
